HND Photojournalism
During my final year of HND I had a unit called Photojournalism. In this unit I would be given tasks with a quick deadline to mimic Photojournalism. During this task I photographed Isolation, Unsung Heroes, Mental Health, Health Awareness and the NHS, Editorial Portrait/Artist, Cycling/WWF and Sports.
These briefs were rather closed, and I wasn’t allowed to edit most of the images. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to upload the Unsung Hero or the Editorial Portrait/Artist as I don’t have permission to post them. I photographed a firefighter and a Classical Musician.
The first task was isolation. For this task I went to a remote farmhouse. I used a longer focal length 105mm to add some compression to the subject.
For my Mental Health image, I asked the model to sit on top of a countryside bridge. I then asked them to bunch themselves close together. This image was showing sadness/ depression.
For my Health Awareness image I focused on the creation of healthy food. Specifically in this image a health curry was being made. I took the image with a glass cupboard with blue lights as a foreground element to frame the subject.
My Cycling image was shot on my phone. This was a quick hand in. My aim was to show the positives of cycling and how cyclists get to move off before cars at traffic lights in Edinburgh city centre.

And for my final images I had to photograph two sport with one of them being football. During this task I got to contact different sports teams, to get access to different games. My final images is Livingston vs Inverness for the football, and the second image was shot at Musselburgh.
During this project I had to learn how to work on a short timeframe and how to contact people. My favourite images were the firefighter, which I wish I could show, and the Health Awareness. Not just because I got a nice homecooked meal. But I love the colours in the image.
